EIOPA Symmetric Adjustment
Retrieves the symmetric adjustment of the equity capital charge of Solvency II, the “equity dampener” EIOPA publishes, daily from 1991, and the equity charges of the standard formula it results in. The adjustment raises the charge when equity prices are above their three-year average and lowers it when they are below, between -10% and +10%, so insurers are not forced to sell equities into a falling market. With get_eiopa_risk_free_rate it completes the market inputs of the standard formula’s market risk module.
The “Type 1 Equity Charge” (equities listed in the EEA or OECD) is 39% plus the adjustment and the “Type 2 Equity Charge” (other equities) 49% plus the adjustment. Every value is a decimal fraction (0.0771 for 7.71%). No API key is needed. Weekly and monthly periods take the value on the last day of each period, which is the value insurers apply at that reporting date.
